The Bloomsburg Area YMCA Barracudas swim
team is a YMCA/USA Swimming age group swim team. The BAY Barracudas swim
team promotes character development by challenging all persons involved in
the program to accept and demonstrate the following four values: caring,
honesty, respect and responsibility. The BAY swim team is recognized
for its emphasis on stroke technique and a balanced, age-appropriate
approach to training. The team is open to all area boys and girls ages 5
through 18. Enrollment is limited on a first-come, first-serve basis. The team
offers both a winter and summer program.
Two 6-lane, 25 yard pools are
used during the winter season; in addition, the team uses a 50 meter, 6
lane pool during the summer season. BAY is a member of the Central Pennsylvania YMCA Swim League (CPYSL)
during the winter season. BAY is also a member of the Middle Atlantic LSC
and participates in USA Swimming competitions
during both winter and summer seasons. The BAY Barracudas were the 2003 YMCA Boys State
Champions for the 3rd consecutive year, 2nd place Combined Team (Boys-Girls
combined first place - 2000, 2001, and 2002). BAY finished 3rd in the
women's team standings at YMCA Nationals in Fort Lauderdale in April 2002.
